The Best of the Decade - #5

Almost Famous (2000)
Directed by: Cameron Crowe

Unlike so many of the directors who have shown up on this list, Cameron Crowe didn't exactly have a good decade. The tragedy of this is that he began said decade about as well as anyone could. Almost Famous has the touch of chick-flick cheesiness that a lot of Crowe's movies have been it also has such solid sentimentality, such perfect characters and such an entertain and more importantly, real story that not only is the cheesiness forgiven, its hardly even noticed. William Miller is nothing special, but I still find myself envying his journey and his experiences. Stillwater is a band of guys who appear pretty genuine, but a times, they are no different than any other band struggling to survive in the harsh face of stardom. Almost Famous is honest and unmerciful and the 5th best movie of the decade.
