The Best of the Decade - #3

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Directed by: Michel Gondry

The best love story of the decade and one of the best of all time is also the third best overall film of the decade. Charlie Kaufman's brilliant pen scribed one of the most original, far-fetched, yet believable stories in recent memory. While this movie is highly acclaimed, it find it to have within it, some of the most underrated performances. Kate Winslet is always praised but she's perfect in this film. Jim Carrey is proves that he's not just a Liar, Liar or an Ace Ventura but that he truly can peform dramatically with the best of them. Tom Wilkinson, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, even David Cross find themselves perfect fits. Not to go unmentioned is the eye of Gondry who really did create a dreamlike vision. There was one way to make Kaufman's story translate in a believable way and Gondry figure out what it was and did it. Eternal Sunshine takes more than one viewing as its a lot to follow at first but its worth that second viewing, and the third, and forth and so on. Watch forever.
