The Best of the Decade - #11

Collateral (2004)
Directed by: Michael Mann

Michael Mann would have one and very possibly two films in the top 25 of the 90s with The Insider and Heat. Collateral is no slouch and very deservedly makes the number 11 slot of this decade's top films. Having seen it recently, I realized that I must have forgotten how good Tom Cruise is as Felix. I've always been one to ignore his personal life and recognize the performances he's given us in films like Magnolia, Jerry Maguire and Born on the Forth of July. His performance here should go right into that category as one of his best. Jamie Foxx is also great and with the exception of a poor outing by Mark Ruffalo, all the supporting characters are great. The action, suspense, and gritty (real gritty) filmmaking are nearly perfect. This is the kind of movie that showcases what makes Mann so good at what he does.
